Otoplasty is a surgical procedure performed to correct congenital or post-traumatic abnormalities in the shape or position of the auricle. Otoplasty is usually performed on individuals with problems such as “drooping ear” or “high ear”.
Otoplasty is performed to bring the auricle to a more symmetrical position, to prevent the ears from moving too far from the head, or to correct abnormal folds or deformities in the auricle. During the procedure, the surgeon usually makes an incision behind the ear and accesses the ear cartilage. The cartilage is then shaped, cut or sutured as necessary, and the ear moved into a more desired position.
Otoplasty is usually performed under local anesthesia, so the patient may be awake during the procedure but will not feel pain. You may experience mild discomfort, swelling, or bruising for a few days after the procedure, but these usually go away quickly.
Otoplasty can help individuals improve their ear shape and appearance while also increasing their self-confidence. However, since each individual’s situation is different, it is important to meet with our plastic surgeon to determine your suitability for otoplasty. Our surgeon will evaluate the current condition of your ears and try to meet your expectations by recommending the most appropriate treatment plan for you.
